Agent Smith is a program in the Matrix portrayed by Hugo Weaving, belonging to subtype 5, we know that he is a AI program design to bring order in the Matrix. Order is brought by killing chaos and irritating human avatars.On one occasion he refers to the smell of humans as disgusting (if there is such a thing as smell). He has many talents such as bending the laws of the Matrix and replicating himself into every avatar in the Matrix. Even though he is just a program, he is one of the most vicious villains of all time.
"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. "

Interesting villain, very unlike HAL9000 in his "human" way of showing contempt toward his opponents. Does he truly harbour emotions, or is his sadistic behaviour just logically optimized for pain-infliction in humans? The Matrix must be one of the greatest sci-fi films ever, but they should have had a scientist among the screenplay writers. :P More about that in my blog. Sooner or later. Most probably later.
