Villain categories

Villains can be categorized into five different subtypes, villains who: 1.) Believe they are doing the right thing (the ends justifies the means) E.g. Magneto (X-men). 2.) Are just scary and mad, or live for destruction, there's no plot nor any obvious reason for a particular target. E.g. The Joker (The Dark Knight) 3.) Seeks revenge, e.g. Khan Star Trek. 4.) Wants power (rule the world), e.g. Blofeldt (James Bond). 5.) Are henchmen, subordinates or robots. They are either without a will, do it for fun or lack of intelligence. E.g. Jaws (James Bond films).

STTOS: Space Seed
Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan

Khan Noonien Singh is the greatest ST villain so far, portrayed by Ricardo Montalban and belongs to subtype 3. Now, why is he so great? The background story is very interesting: A group of GMH (Genetically Modified Humans) from the past (1990's) is found in suspended animation by the Enterprise crew in 2267 who revives them. Among these are Khan a dictator who ruled vast parts of the Earth. Actually "Khan" is a title for a ruler in Turkic and Mongolian languages. Tricking the Enterprise crew into believeing they are friendly, Khan and his followers try to kidnap the ship. Eventually Kirk wins and punishes Khan by exiling them to a dangerous but habitable planet called Ceti Alpha V. However a catastrophy resulting in massive environmental and orbit changes on the planet turned things around. In 2285 when Star Fleet were to investigate Ceti Alpha VI they mistook it for the V planet, meeting Khan and providing him a way out. Mad with revenge he sets out for Kirk at all cost.
